Frequently Asked Questions

Preserving Natural History

How do you help protect Northern Virginia’s natural resources?

This is a question we are always proud to answer. At QTS, we’ve pioneered an innovative water-free system that cools our data centers without consuming water and saves more than 48 million gallons of water annually per data center.

Because we have eliminated the need for water consumption, our data center will not impact the county’s rivers, lakes, or other water resources.

What are you doing to preserve the area’s historic significance?

We have a strong sense of national pride and have many men and women on our team who have served our country, so we take this question to heart.

As development moves forward, we continue to work closely with local leaders and professional archaeologists to ensure that this area’s important history is honored here.

We are here to honor Northern Virginia’s historic past, to embrace the milestone moment we are in today and to help Prince William build a future here at home for the next generation, where community and opportunity grow side-by-side.

Data Centers

What is a data center?

Data centers quietly support much of what we all rely on – like phone calls, online banking, streaming shows and even accessing medical records. In all the ways we connect digitally, data centers make it possible.

As technologies like artificial intelligence, online shopping, digital payments and virtual healthcare grow, the demand for secure places to store and protect that data is rising fast. That’s why our new data centers are being thoughtfully developed around the world.

Why Prince William County?

It is no secret that Northern Virginia has quickly become the data center capital of the world.

Prince William County has actively sought data center development, which demonstrates a commitment to our industry. The state’s robust infrastructure, competitive tax rates and access to a skilled workforce make Prince William County favorable for data center development.

Economic Impact

What is the impact of data centers on county revenue?

For every 1 dollar a data center uses in county services, it returns 13 dollars in revenue. In 2023, new and expanding data centers represented 92% of all new investment in Virginia, pushing the industry’s total statewide investment past $200 billion.*

What is the projected annual tax revenue?

Prince William County’s tax revenue is surging as data center development accelerates, with 2022 revenue over $110 million. The Prince William Digital Gateway project is projected to bring an estimated $500 million in annual tax revenue to the county once facilities under development are completed.*

Job Creation

What types of jobs will this data center project create?

Our data center campus is expected to create a technology ecosystem that develops and supports thousands of high-paying jobs in technology, construction, trade, fit-out, security, maintenance, and logistics.

How many jobs does a data center project create?

In 2023, data centers in Northern Virginia directly provided approximately:

  • 10,420 operational jobs
  • 12,340 construction jobs
  • $2.6 billion in associated employee pay & benefits
  • $15.5 billion in economic output*
